The Associate Director of Student Activities and Student Organizations serves as an essential member of the Student Life and Student Center Complex team and has direct reporting responsibility to the Sr. Director of Student Activities and Student Organizations and Student Center Complex programs. The mission of the Department of Student Activities and Student Organizations is to provide students with purposeful and inclusive programs, resources, and experiences that enhance the UM community through learning, engagement, and upholding campus traditions. The department serves as an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs and works closely with the Student Center Complex, William R. Butler Center for Volunteer Service and Leadership Development, Department of Orientation and Commuter Student Involvement, Multicultural Student Affairs, the LGBTQ Center, and the Rathskeller. Primary duties include supervising Business & Financial Operations Manager and Sr. Financial Assistant, overseeing all student employees, managing the Committee on Student Organizations (COSO) which governs 340+ student organizations, advising the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC) managing over $1.4 million in funding, coordinating student organization registration and goal setting, managing Engage software, planning leadership development workshops and awards ceremonies, managing contracts for student organizations, consulting on organization management, budgeting, event planning, risk management, university business practices, coordinating advisor workshops, advising Canefest Committee, creating and enforcing policies related to student organization life, reviewing travel registration forms, coordinating marketing efforts, managing listservs, supporting various university initiatives and events, and performing additional duties as assigned. Requires ability to work in a fast-paced environment, excellent communication and organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and ability to work autonomously and in teams. Education requirement is a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Higher Education Administration or related field with 3-5 years of progressive experience in Higher Education/Student Affairs or related field. Some nights and weekends work expected.
