Compensation: $38.00-44.00/Hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Management of Personnel Resources
- Procurement of Material Resources and Inventory Management
- Registered Inspector for Quick-Way, Inc.
- Mentor Mechanics on Quick-Way procedure for Annual Inspections and oversee their work during the 3-year period of oversight. Review completed work prior to signing off on inspections.
- Maintain service files and build documentation according to DOT recordkeeping requirements.
Mechanical
- Directly supervise and coordinate activities of Mechanics. Schedule according to operational needs; approve overtime as required.
- Ensure equipment is maintained and repaired of trucks and trailers in alignment with company standards and within a defined timeframe. Coordinate with Dispatch to access equipment in line with established service intervals.
- Troubleshoot defects and mechanical issues using manufacturer software and equipment knowledge.
- Review and close out Work Orders prepared by Maintenance team.
- Review and audit regional DOT required documentation including, but not limited to, Maintenance-related roadside inspections, work orders, daily vehicle inspection reports (DVIR’s)
- Train and coach Mechanics to improve efficiency, expand knowledge of equipment and industry and identify leadership development opportunities as appropriate.
Inventory Management
- Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers, vendors, and outside service departments.
- Reconcile invoices with parts received.
- Monitor inventory of key items and reorder service equipment as needed.
- Lead periodic physical inventory counts; work with Accounting and CPA to identify discrepancies and improve accuracy of counts.
- Establish and maintain inventory and bins in line with 5S standards for organization.
Responsible Care
- Maintain shop area in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s standards for General Industry and according to Quick-Way’s RCMS commitments.
- Participate in quarterly Responsible Care 2.1 meetings. Lead and contribute to task groups as a representative of the Maintenance.
Safety
- Train new employees in Maintenance procedures including Confined Space program, Fall Protection Policy, Powered Industrial Vehicles program, Heat Illness Prevention Policy, safe chemical handling practices and driving commercial vehicles.
- Ensure regular eyewash, ladder, and fire extinguisher inspections.
- Ensure Maintenance and organization of shop area utilizing principles of 5S.
- Minimize workplace injuries through training and continuous improvement. Assist in Workman’s Compensation investigations as necessary.
- Identify and implement opportunities for improvement in safety, efficiency, quality of work or productivity.
KNOWLEDGE
- FMCSA DOT Pre- and Post-trip inspections
- Thorough understanding of FMCSA §396 Inspection, repair, and maintenance and the consequences for Quick-Way recordkeeping, maintenance schedule, required repairs to prevent Out-of-Service .
- Machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Principles and methods of transportation industry; tank truck experience preferred.
- Materials, methods, and the tools involved in the repair and upkeep of buildings, parking lots and lawn through all seasons.
- Must meet inspector qualifications outlined in §396.19 Inspector qualifications.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
- State of Michigan Mechanic Certification
- State of Michigan Certification – Heavy Duty Engine Repair – Diesel
- State of Michigan Certification – Heavy Duty Drive Train
- State of Michigan Certification – Brakes & Braking Systems
- State of Michigan Certification – Heavy Duty Suspension & Steering Systems
- State of Michigan Certification – Heavy Duty Electrical Systems
- Periodic Inspection Training or verifiable experience
STRONGLY PREFERRED
- Current Registered Inspector and/or combination of experience/education.
- Air Conditioning Society Certification
- Current CDL-A license

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Own tools required for truck maintenance.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in similar position preferred.
- Ability to process written and other materials visually.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and submit to random drug pool that aligns with Federal DOT drug testing requirements.
- Overtime, weekend, and holiday availability as required.
- Physical efforts required include repetitive small motor activity, grasping, verbally communicating detailed and important information to others quickly and accurately, stooping, reaching, standing, stretching, twisting, lifting objects up to fifty pounds frequently, and frequent climbing. Must be able to climb ladders and have steady balance on a platform approximately fifteen feet above ground level.
- Field of vision must be adequate to observe up and down or right to left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
- Ability to process written and other materials visually.
- Requires ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than a 40-dB loss at 500Hz and 2000 Hz without correction.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving history.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Working in a Maintenance Shop where the weather can significantly affect the temperature of the garage. Exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel. Must be willing to work as part of the team and to step in when needed. Occasionally overtime may be required due to vacation schedules or maintenance deadlines. Overtime must be approved by management.
