Key responsibilities:

  • Create cohesive brand systems and style guides
  • Collaborate closely with content creators, developers, and account managers to bring ideas to life
  • Ensure designs meet accessibility, usability, and responsive design best practices

  • Participate in brainstorming and concept development for client campaigns and internal initiatives

qualifications:

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

Experience:  A minimum of three years of experience in graphic and web design for businesses, as well as a passion for design and aesthetics. A strong portfolio with examples of published websites, as well as digital, print and/or branding work, is required (while you may submit student projects, we require the majority of your work be real-world experience).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop)
  • Experience designing and building websites in Squarespace, Wix and/or Shopify
  • A strong portfolio that showcases your range in brand identity, layout, typography, and digital design
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of visual hierarchy
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team
  • Clear communication skills and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
  • Familiarity with Figma, Canva, or similar collaborative design tools
  • Creativity!
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines

Bonus Points:

  • Basic HTML/CSS knowledge
  • Motion graphics or video editing experience
  • Experience working directly with clients or presenting design rationale
  • Photography and videography skills

We also require a strong work ethic, a team mentality, and a positive, energetic attitude. 😁

hours & compensation:

Hours: Approximately 40 hours weekly

Schedule: This is a hybrid position based in Charlottesville, VA. Team members are expected to work on-site at Hive’s Charlottesville headquarters at least two days per week, with flexibility to work remotely the rest of the time. Occasional in-person meetings or client sessions may be required. Hours will primarily be Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, but will occasionally occur outside normal business hours depending on account needs (mix of in-office and onsite content gathering for clients - all in or around Charlottesville).

Compensation: Competitive salary rate based on experience, a generous PTO policy, QSEHRA health plan reimbursement, and 401k opportunity after six months.

how to apply:

Interested in working with us? Please submit your resumé along with a portfolio that showcases your range and style as a designer. We’re especially interested in seeing:

  • Brand identity projects (logos, style guides, visual systems)
  • Website designs or site builds (Squarespace, WordPress, Shopify, etc.)
  • Print and digital marketing materials (brochures, ads, social graphics)
  • Any examples of UX/UI work, wireframes, or responsive design
  • A brief note about your role in each project and the tools/platforms used

We’re looking for real-world, client-facing experience—student projects are welcome if they demonstrate strong skills, but should not make up the bulk of your portfolio. If available, please include links to live websites you’ve designed or collaborated on. Bonus points for showing how your design helped solve a problem or delivered results.

  • Send submissions to info@hivecreativegroup.com with the subject line “Full-time Designer Application - [Your Name].” We look forward to hearing from you!
