Job Description

Title: Head of Finance

Location: Atlanta or Phoenix strongly preferred; hybrid schedule acceptable (remote considered for exceptional candidates)

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Industry: Cannabis / Hemp

About the Role

We are a multistate vertical cannabis operator. We’re seeking a finance leader with cannabis experience who combines deep technical strength with a personal growth mindset and thrives in dynamic, evolving environments. As Head of Finance, you will be a key strategic partner to the CEO and executive team, owning the financial roadmap across cannabis and hemp operations. You will lead budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and compliance—while also rolling up your sleeves to improve operational processes and build scalable infrastructure.

This role is ideal for a hands-on builder with a “company-first” mindset —someone who leads with curiosity, needs their team to win, and invests in both strategy and execution. The business is in a high-growth phase, scaling across multiple product lines and geographies, with ambitious plans that require sound financial leadership, investor readiness, and operational excellence. Cannabis industry experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Finance & Forecasting

  • Lead financial forecasting, modeling, and performance analysis across all business units
  • Build dispensary-level and product-line P&Ls; develop ROI models for new initiatives and partnerships
  • Provide scenario planning and capital allocation guidance to drive business decisions

Budgeting & Profitability

  • Develop and manage annual budgets and rolling forecasts
  • Build and refine margin profiles by product line and business segment
  • Continuously monitor budget vs. actuals and recommend optimizations

Capital Planning & Fundraising

  • Identify short- and long-term capital needs (12–24 months horizon)
  • Build investor ROI models and fundraising materials to support equity and debt raises
  • Support CEO in investor communications and due diligence processes

Accounting Oversight & Controls

  • Supervise internal or external accounting teams and lead monthly close
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and cannabis-specific tax requirements (including 280E)
  • Maintain financial controls, audit readiness, and tax compliance

Loan Covenant Management
  • Monitor and forecast loan covenants, proactively flag risks and maintain lender relationships
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for debt obligations
M&A & Transactional Support

  • Lead financial modeling and analysis for acquisitions, divestitures, or asset sales
  • Drive build-vs-buy decisions and integration modeling

Reporting & Board Support

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal leadership and board stakeholders
  • Deliver KPI dashboards and support decision-making with clear insights

Systems & Data Innovation

  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize financial systems and ERP platforms
  • Integrate POS and seed-to-sale systems with finance infrastructure
  • Leverage advanced analytics and AI-enhanced tools to modernize finance operations

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with operations, legal, compliance, and product to drive alignment and efficiency
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous learning

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in Cannabis Industry Required
  • 7–10+ years of experience in corporate finance, FP&A, or accounting leadership roles
  • Experience in regulated, inventory-driven environments such as cannabis, CPG, or manufacturing
  • Deep understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles
  • Proven ability to lead in high-growth or capital-constrained environments
  • Strong modeling skills in Excel; experience with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite)
  • Exposure to or leadership of AI-enhanced finance, BI, or data science tools is a strong plus
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • High integrity, low ego, and a builder’s mindset
